Coin Presentation

During 2016, as part of our 950th commemorative year, children from Stamford Bridge Primary School were asked to design one side of a commemorative coin. During a recent visit to the school we had great pleasure in presenting the winner Callum Midgley with a certificate, t-shirt and cased coin made with his own design. Six runners up also received a certificate and one of the cased coin. We were delighted with the schools response to the competition and the enthusiasm shown by all the schoolchildren. The coins, which have the society’s logo on the reverse, are available for members to purchase for £5.00 including case. We hope to make a limited number available to the public in the future.

1066 Festival 2018

The weekend of 29th and 30th  September 2018 saw our annual commemoration of the Battle of Stamford Bridge. At the two day event visitors enjoyed a fine display from the Viking and Saxon re-enactors plus local history group stands and craft demonstrations. A big thank you to everyone who helped put on the show. Before the procession over the viaduct on Sunday Maggy Ellison held a small memorial service for those who fell at the battle and a wreath was laid, remembrance was also given to “Ragnar” a colleague and friend of many of the re-enactors, who passed away earlier this year.
